Welcome to my page of vaccination information:
Author: Teresa A. Hestekin
The following information is based on my personal experience:
A Licensed Veterinarian: Your veterinarian should be someone that you trust! Your veterinarian should be someone that you know is taking the best possible care of your puppy in this confusing vaccination needed world. If your veterinarian makes you feel uncomfortable, does not listen to your point of view, does not answer your questions in simple language that we all can understand, then please find someone else. I'm sure that there are some veterinarians who are more dollar oriented then health oriented and if you come across one of these sorts please be careful. There is much information to be found on the internet these days, take sometime and do some reading to get the basic idea of what quality vet care is all about. Remember that this puppy is in your care for his/her life time. Your care includes vet care!
Ask your friends: which licensed veterinarian do they take their beloved pet to? Ask why they like this person and also why they do not like this person... Word of mouth is the best in finding out information you need to know!
My vaccination schedule does vary some which allows for me to make the decision of time in regards to weaning my babies. If my babies are petite or not eating as well as I think they should for their age, then I will start their vaccinations a week later for their own safety. This is where my past 20+ years of experience comes in handy.
Here is my personal vaccination schedule for my babies:
First booster is given between 5-7 weeks of age, I have chosen to use Neopar which is for Parvovirus only.
Second puppy booster is given 10 -15 days later, my choice of vaccine is: Fort Dodge Duramune Max 5
Canine Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus (this is modified live)
Approximately 1/2 way between the second booster and the third booster I add in Progard KC (for Kennel Cough)
Third puppy booster is given 15-25 days after the second booster, my choice of vaccine is again: Fort Dodge Duramune Max 5
Canine Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus (this is modified live)
Now keep in mind that these babies will be dewormed as needed in this process. We use stool samples to confirm how often our babies need to be dewormed and I recommend that you along with the help of your licensed veterinarian do the same.
Rabies vaccinations: The AVMA states that rabies vaccinations that are given after 6 months of age are good for three years. How often does your vet recommend them?
Corona virus: has a vaccination but there has not been a recorded case in dogs past 8 weeks of age, yet some vets still recommend a yearly vaccination: http://critteradvocacy.org.
Heartworm: Some Veterinarians might insist that dogs have to be tested annually for heartworm. Ivermectin is the active ingredient in Heartguard. Ivermectin is part of the treatment a vet gives to a Heartworm infected dog to remove the microfilaria or heartworm babies that circulate in the blood stream. It has been found that if Heartguard (Ivermectin) is given monthly to an infected animal for 12 to 18 months, it will actually cure the infection. I know of no monthly preventative that will harm an infected dog (short of an allergy) and the labels states as much. Pre-testing is totally unnecessary.
Lymes disease: The AVMA states that 25-85% of normal dogs in Lymes areas will routinely test positive, yet these dogs do not come down with symptoms any more than those that test negative. The test obviously is not an accurate diagnosis of Lymes disease and is not an indication for treatment. The test is basically worthless as a diagnosis of the disease. A five day treatment with inexpensive tetracycline to an animal showing symptoms (acute, multiple leg arthritis) will give a dramatic response in just a couple of days. If symptoms reoccur in a few days after stopping the treatment then repeat the treatment, an improvement is your diagnosis and as close to a positive as you are going to get, continuing treatment for 30 days should then be all that's needed.
Here is an example of my records that will be included with your puppy:
Please Forward These Records To A Veterinarian Of Your Choice!
HOW CAN VACCINE OVERDOSES EFFECT MY NEW PUPPY:
If your veterinarian wants to start over with this puppies vaccinations you are risking the chance of vaccinosis which is caused from too many shots/overdose. If your vet asks to start this process over be sure that he/she will accept all responsibility for this? If so be sure to get this agreement between you and your veterinarian in writing.
ASK FOR A TITER TEST
If
your vet wants to start the already given vaccinations from the
beginning ask that he/she do a Titer Test first. This test will
show the amounts of each antibody in this puppies system and therefore
you will know what protection this puppy currently has in regards to
ammunity.
If your veterinarian has been keeping up-to-date with the vaccination related literature and new protocols, he or she should agree to draw blood for a titer test. If your veterinarian is reluctant to do so and you are convinced that revaccination can compromise your pet's health, then calmly state your case. If you still get resistance, it might be wise to look for another veterinarian who is more in line with current canine health. Your veterinarian should know of a lab that will run the testing because they send in lab work all the time for other things. The titer is usually more expensive than the vaccine ($40 ) and the vet might try to convince you to go with the "cheaper alternative," but evidence suggests that over the long run it is probably neither economically nor medically sound advice to automatically and blindly revaccinate your pet.

----ADOPTION AGREEMENT-----
The puppy you have
selected is guaranteed by Hestekin
Hills to the original adoptor. This puppy appears to be of
sound body, and in good health, as far as appears to the eye
at the time of this adoption. The adoptor is strongly urged
to establish a relationship with a Veterinarian of their
choice within 24 hours of the adoption to assure that they
will follow through with this puppies health care. This
puppy is guaranteed until the age of 1 year against
hereditary and congenital disorders that will interfere with
the puppy's ability to lead a normal life, excluding
umbilical hernias which is
normal for this breed. Should a veterinarian find such a
hereditary or congenital disorder, you simply supply us with
your veterinarians written report and the report from the OFA
or GDC, stating that this
puppy is indeed severely affected. This puppy would then be
replaced with another of equal value, and as available. We
reserve the right to have any diagnosis verified by a
veterinarian of our choice. I do not pay veterinary bills
incurred under any circumstances. All Veterinarian and
transportation expenses are the adoptor's
responsibility. Puppies are not placed on a trial
basis, but may be returned to us at any time in their life
and for any reason. The adoptor is aware that no refunds
will be given and that they are taking full responsibility
for this puppy from this date forward. At no time should a
puppy/dog be placed in any rescue organization, shelter,
pound or any other such organization, and/or for any reason.
If a situation such as this ever presents itself to you, you
simply are guaranteeing me that you will be responsible
enough to return this puppy/dog to me so that I can aid in
placing him/her in a new loving home.
Three options of this adoption are available, place your initials by the option of your choice:
______This
puppy has been adopted as a pet for. You as the adoptor
agree to keep this puppy in top condition. Registration
papers if given, are as a courtesy only on pet puppies. It
is recommended that you have this puppy spay/neutered at
approximately six months of age. If this puppy has been
bred, intentionally or not, this guarantee is void! If
this Adoption Agreement is violated, the adoptor agrees to
pay the difference of the adoption fee, which is equal to
the amount already paid.
It
is required that you find a reputable veterinarian to keep
this puppy up to date on all vaccinations and wormings
according to veterinarian standards for this puppies age. It
is required that this puppy remain on the NuVet Plus
vitamins as a nutritional supplement. (To order your NuVet

this is a human grade all natural ingredient vitamin) It is
required that you transfer this puppies microchip, if
microchipped, into your name within 3 days of this adoption.
This puppy is currently eating Pedigree puppy food, and it
is strongly recommended that you follow this program. Adult
size, conformation, color, pattern, and breeding
capabilities if applicable, can not be guaranteed. All
Veterinarian and transportation expenses are the adoptor's
responsibility. I assume no responsibility for the puppy
after leaving our premises for accident, injury,
disagreement of family members, veterinarian exams,
medications, mortality, behavior, disease, or for any other
reasons. I do not pay veterinary bills incurred under any
circumstances, and the adoptor is aware that no refunds will
be given as they are taking full responsibility for this
puppy from this date forward. Providing adequate medical
care including heartworm preventative and yearly
vaccinations is a must. Providing adequate exercise and
human contact is a necessity of any puppy or dog.
I, as the adoptor of this puppy, do hereby guarantee that I
am not a broker or a puppy mill. I am aware that placing of
this puppy in any such place is a violation of this
contract.
Adoptor agrees that if any conditions or terms of the above
contract are violated by the adoptor, the adoptor will pay
restitution, which is equal to the amount already paid. If
the adoptor must be taken into court to enforce this
contract it is agreed that all court costs and legal fees
incurred will be paid by the adoptor, all actions will be in
Wisconsin Court and be subject to Wisconsin Laws. Adopting a
puppy should not be an impulsive decision and it is your
responsibility to understand that you are making a decision
for the lifetime of the puppy.

Visiting Our Puppies: Visitations are by appointment only. We do have a few requirements prior to your visit:
1. Young puppies, under 6 weeks old are not allowed to have outside visitors as they are not, at this young age, vaccinated or ready for the stress associated with the outside world.
2. Do not stop at any pet stores, other breeders or vet clinics prior to stopping here. Young puppies are susceptible to contracting unseen viruses prior to receiving all their needed vaccinations, your help to assure that no unseen outside germs are brought into our residence is greatly appreciated. Our puppies health and safety are our first responsibility.
3. If you are interested in seeing pictures of our young puppies please email me at: tar9091@aol.com I would be happy to send pictures. Pictures are a great way to see our upcoming puppies without adding any undo stress to our nursing mothers and our young babies. Keeping our mothers feeling secure and happy is very important.
4. Thank you so much for helping us keep our babies as healthy and happy as can be.
Choosing a Male or female puppy: Basically choosing the sex turns out to be a personal preference thing, some people will tell you that they will never have a male dog and others will tell you that they will never have a female dog! A few thing that might help you decide between the two sexes: Have you had a dog before? Was this dog a male or a female? What did you like about this dog and what did you dislike about this dog? Maybe ask a friend with a dog why they choose a male or female? Call your veterinarian and inform him/her that you are considering the idea of adding a new puppy to your home and ask your vet if they think a male or a female would be the right choice for you. If you spay a female and neuter a male, the two really compare closely. If you don't spay a female she will come into heat (season) for about 30 days each time and she would be leaving little red spots all over your house. If you neuter a male at 6 months of age, or before his manly hormonal boost, that will or should eliminate any marking of territory. Marking is a learned habit and if you can cut off the hormones before he learns what marking is, males make wonderful pets. Males are usually a little more affectionate than females, at least that has been my experience!
Pet Quality Puppies versus Show Quality Puppies: Don't let a breeder fool you when they tell you that their puppies are show quality puppies. Being show quality is something that no breeder, no matter how experienced he/she may be, cannot guarantee to you until the puppy has reached at least 6 months of age. If I refer to a puppy as pet quality that does not mean that the puppy is not the best example of his/her breed, that fact is just unknown at that time. I use the difference in terms, of Pet or Show quality, only to describe the puppies destination, meaning the show ring, or a wonderful and loving pet home. A show potential puppy is one that goes beyond the definition of pet quality. These dogs are free of all AKC disqualifying faults. They are not guaranteed to win in the show ring, but AT THE TIME OF ADOPTION, display no structural, cosmetic or temperament faults that would prevent them from attaining a breed championship if handled correctly of course. The fact that a dog may finish a championship does not necessarily mean that it is of breeding quality. Correct phenotype, or what is seen from the outside, does not guarantee correct genotype which would be the genes that are crossed and passed on to the next generation. My puppies may mature to be show quality, and under special circumstances, the AKC limited registration can be lifted, which would allow for showing in all events. The Universal Kennel Club International (UKC), and America's Pet Registry (APR) also have dog show events available now, see their sites for more information.

injected between the pets shoulder blades, and just under the
skin, much like a vaccine. You will be given the additional paperwork
to register that chip with the Recovery Service, the life time enrollment
fee of $17.50 per pet is paid by you and directly to HomeAgain
Pet Recovery Service! Or register online at www.HomeAgainID.com

Other alternatives are: Cash is accepted at the time of pickup; Paypal is accepted with a 3% transaction fee; I do not like Western Union but this is also an option; Personal checks are accepted as deposits and also as payments, All personal checks must clear my bank prior to you picking up your puppy, or the shipping of your puppy! All puppies/dogs remain with me until completely paid for. I do not accept Cashiers Checks or Money Orders due to the Nigerian Check scam warnings on the internet. ALL DEPOSITS AND PAYMENTS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
Shipping
Options are:
* You can come here to pick your puppy up (Eau Claire, Wisconsin)
* Shipping by Northwest
or Kitty Hawk
Air: Although I would prefer to meet my babies new
families in person, I do understand that this is not always an
option for those of you who live so far away, therefore I offer
world wide shipping at an added expense! I prefer to use Northwest
or Kitty Hawk
Air due to the extra special attention they have paid to my
puppies in the past, but other airlines are always an option at your
request! Shipping prices start at about $250.00 depending on the
size of the puppy, the time of year, and temperatures. All airlines
have temperature restrictions in which the temperatures must be
between 10 and 85 degrees in order for me to ship a puppy, if it is
too hot or too cold to ship on a certain day we can go day by day
until the temperatures are alright for shipping. If this
happens, please bare with me, I will get your puppy to you as soon
as I can, and Thank you for understanding! When I quote a
price to you, be assured that all expenses are included. (My travel
to and from the airport which is about a 4 hour round trip, the
puppies required health papers for the airline, a pet porter that is
large enough for a comfortable trip, and the flight/airline fees)
I will no longer pre-book flights without the puppy being paid
for in full. Shipping is usually done in the middle of the
week, I prefer Wednesdays. If I have to make a special trip to
the airport for your difficult schedule please add $50.00 to cover
the cost of my gas to and from the airport.
*We also offer door to door delivery, and/or partial delivery service. Delivery prices vary depending on destination and total drive time:

The key components to our successful breeding program are health,
physical structure, quality, excellent temperaments, and extreme intelligence.
My affiliations and Registries:
1. I am in good standings and I always have been in good standings with: AKC, APR, UKC, CKC, RKF, UKCI, and more.
2. I am inspected by the AKC. Inspections Educate Breeders and Promote Better Breeding Practices: read more about the AKC inspection process online at: http://www.akc.org/about/depts/investigations.cfm/
3. Our dogs are shown in AKC (The American Kennel Club) and CKC (The Canadian Kennel Club) events, read more about dog showing online at: www.akc.org/events/conformation/beginners.cfm
4. For the past 10 years I have been an evaluator for The American Kennel Clubs Canine Good Citizen Program. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. Read more about the CGC program online at: www.akc.org/events/conformation/beginners.cfm
5. I successfully completed the NACA Wisconsin Humane Officer Training Course in 2004 and am certified to be a Wisconsin Humane Officer. My facility is licensed by my township, the DNR, and is also inspected and licensed by the USDA (a federal license). I am not required to be a USDA facility but I wanted to be sure that I hold every license available to me. Other facilities may avoid proper city, town and federal licenses and most claim to be exempt from such, I feel any facility holding animals for any purpose should be USDA (federal) licensed.
6. I am available and I offer my aid with any adoption, placements, health, foster care, education, and/or support to you. If you need to a re-home your pet I am willing to assist you, regardless of where your dog came from!
7. I do not support private breed clubs. A private breed club member is "not" better then a non-member. If you are not on the PTA at your childs school does that make you a bad mom? Private breed club members are not inspectors, they are not certified, and they do not care for their animals any better or worse then a non-member! Anyone who has more then 3 dogs in their home or on their property should be licensed by someone whether it is their city, their state, or the federal government. Being a member of a private breed club is not a license. I have chose to not be a member of the BCOA.
8. I feel that I am highly educated in the field of animals and animal care, most of my education is accomplished by hands on experience. I am a farm girl who grew up on a large dairy and horse farm. Bonnie Brae Dairy had provided bottled milk for many in this area. As a child my grandmother, Vivian, showed and raised tiny Pomeranians; my other grandmother, Gladys, showed and raised Miniature Poodles; and my parents had Doberman Pinschers. Grandpa had a passion for Shetland ponies and horses and at times had as many as 100 which he provided to camps such as Camp Agawak, where my Aunt Jean taught the camp riding lessons. My dad later started Bonnie Brae Quarter Horse farm where he eventually added in paint horses and is now RH Horse Company. Maybe you have met some of our horses in the past at The Trinity Equestrian Center where their time was "donated" to help make some youngster smile. My mother hauled her 4 children horse showing nearly every weekend, and currently hauls my children horse showing. I have assisted with many rehabilitating situations with all sorts of animals and I am willing to welcome any new experience. I will try to answer most any questions you may have or help you with any issues you may have as well, I might not have the answer to every issue but I am sure willing to try, please don't be afraid to ask!
9. Dog breeders work hard to keep the 300+ choices of breeds alive, read more about dog breeders at: http://hestekinhills.com.
The American Kennel Club has an obedience program called
The Canine Good Citizen Program.
I am a CGC Evaluator and yes you can come to me to have
your dog evaluated and possibly receive your award certificate!
