Maybe our Fostering Program is for you!

As per our own chosing we do not like to keep a large number of dogs at our home and kennel for breeding. We feel that all dogs need to be a part of the family as they do not thrive to their full potential in kennel situations, therefore we have our foster dog program.

Of course our program is not for everyone and we have a very lengthy and personal application, we also require references, including that of a reputable veterinarian.  There is a big chance that we will come to see your home and possibly pick through your history and personal information as well.

More Information On Our Foster Program:   We usually have a favorite puppy from certain litters that we just hate to part with.  Of course it's hard to keep back so many lovely little ones and our babies require lots of hard work, time, training and love to keep them thriving and happy.  When we have a certain puppy that we feel is exceptional and we decide that he or she should be kept for breeding or showing purposes those of you who are on our approved Foster Home list would be notified in order of who was approved first and so on.  If this puppy is not what you or I feel would be a good fit for your family you can pass and wait until the next... If however our baby seems to be the right fit for your home and family, he or she would be staying in your home for their entire life provided you follow our fostering rules.  Our rules are quite simple and we like to keep them simple and easy for both you and also for us.  Our program allows certain families or individuals to have an opportunity to have one of the best dogs we can produce and without the large dollar purchase price.

What If This Puppy Does Not Fit Into Our Breeding Program:   When our foster puppy grows up he/she may be used in our breeding program if we feel he/she is an acceptable fit. As he/she matures we will pay for specific health testing to be done, but you will need to deliver and pick him or her up from the veterinarian of our choice, or we can help arrange transportation if needed.  If this puppy or dog does not pass or we feel he or she is just not what we want in our current breeding program  (temperament, conformation, or any other reason thereof) he/she will not be used as part of the breeding program.  You being the foster family will always be given first chance to purchase him or her at any offered price anytime during the Fostering Program of our dog.  This is a pretty good deal considering you have the pick of the litter pup!

This Puppy Is A Fit Into Our Breeding Program:   If he or she "IS" what we would like to add to our breeding program we will have him/her bred to a mate of our choosing, and at our cost, which could mean he/she leaves you for a week or possibly two weeks for a romantic interlude.

FemalesIf you have a female, she will remain with you until 1 week before she is due to have the pups then she comes and lives with us until the pups are weaned at about 6-8 weeks of age.  You are spared any responsibility of whelping or raising puppies.  Once the puppies are fully weaned, and placed into their new homes she goes back to you!  This is a way for us to keep the BEST females from each litter, and then only breed the best of the best.  After we have finished using her in our breeding program (at around 5 years of age, or 3 litters of puppies) she will be spayed and you will then get full ownership of her at no cost. The advantage for our dogs in the long run is that when he/she is no longer in our breeding program he/she does not need to be placed in a new home at an age when it would be more difficult for him/her - this is already home!

MalesIf you have a male, he will remain with you unless we have a certain special female who we would like to breed with him.  We may need him here for a week or so at a time and a few times during the year.  We will most likely need current pictures and information from time to time so that our puppy purchasers have a good feel for who dad is. You being the foster family will always be given first chance to purchase him or her at any offered price anytime during the Fostering Program of our dog.  This is a pretty good deal considering you have the pick of the litter pup!   If we decide he no longer fits our breeding program or we have finished using him in our breeding program he will be neutered and you will then get full ownership of him at no cost.
The advantage for our dogs in the long run is that when he/she is no longer in our breeding program he/she does not need to be placed in a new home at an age when it would be more difficult for him/her - this is already home!

NOTE: All puppies would be the property of Hestekin Hills.

Who Qualifies for a Foster Dog?

We are very selective of whom we choose to become a foster family. Our primary concern is that our dogs go into safe homes where they will be loved, and well taken care of.

We expect the foster parents to allow the dogs to be in the house dogs and become a part of the family.

We do not place our dogs with people that want farm dogs, nor do we place our puppies with people who are going to keep them strictly as an outside dogs.

We will have home checks and stop in from time to time.

If you have another dog it is still possible to foster.  If your dog is good with other dogs and has been sexually altered this is possible.

But what if you want to keep a pup from the litter?
If this is your dogs last litter and is due to be spayed, we will consider letting you keep a female or male from the last litter as either a foster or as a pet only.

What are the Foster Family's Responsibilities?

You are NOT paying for the dog, but you still have to take TOP NOTCH care of him/her.  This means general vet care, vet fees due to accidents (if she/he should have a run in with a porcupine, cuts her foot while swimming, sickness due to eating something, etc.)  grooming (she must be kept clean, and overall groomed), obedience training, love, spoiling, good food, etc etc etc.  The dog will be the foster family's dog for always and forever.  The only way a foster dog would be removed from a foster home would be due to lack of care, or request from the family itself.

It is expected as well that the pup be trained in basic obedience and be taught good doggy manners.

If the foster family has a desire to go "all out" and wants to show the dog, we are behind you all the way with any wisdom, tips and encouragement.  Showing your dog would be totally at your own expense.

SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER:

- You get the best that Hestekin Hills has to offer as long as the dog is well taken care of.  This will mean the most stable, most friendly, most even tempered dog in the litter and hopefully the one who is most beautiful.

- You will receive unlimited support and encouragement from us, and hopefully a good friendship.

- You will have to deal with heat cycles. Heat cycles are very similar to human females menstrual cycles except they only go into heat every 6-9 months.  The average heat cycle lasts about two to three weeks. During this time you may choose to get some special "doggy panties" which will keep her and your home clean.  As well you MUST keep a close watch on her during her heat cycle to ensure she isn't bred by a dog who jumps the fence, digs under the fence etc etc... It is the Foster families duty to be sure she is only when and to who we choose to breed her to...

- Your baby girl will have to leave you for a few months, several times during her life.  Of course, the dog will be totally spoiled when here, kept as a house dog, not a kennel dog, but still, there will be an absence from your life.

Ideally for convenience the program is set up for those within a two hour radius of Eau Claire, WI.  We do not like to have our girls fostered any more than one-two hours away.

Fostering is NOT for everyone, however it can be a very rewarding and exciting experience.

Have you always had a desire to breed?  Ask about co-owning a top quality female with us.  This would be very similar to the fostering program only you would have the puppies at your home and share the experience and puppies with us!  Perfect opportunity to start your own line and try your hand at raising puppies.  Anyone considering this MUST have a love for dogs and be willing to work together with us as a team to raise fantastic, healthy, happy pups that are a perfect representation of the breed standard.

If you wish more information or to be considered as a foster parent or co-owning please let us know and request an  application.

My affiliations and Registries:

1. I am in good standings and I always have been in good standings with: AKC, APR, UKC, CKC, RKF, UKCI, and more.

2. I am inspected by the AKC. Inspections Educate Breeders and Promote Better Breeding Practices: read more about the AKC inspection process online at:  http://www.akc.org/about/depts/investigations.cfm/

3. Our dogs are shown in AKC (The American Kennel Club) and CKC (The Canadian Kennel Club) events, read more about dog showing online at:  www.akc.org/events/conformation/beginners.cfm

4. For the past 10 years I have been an evaluator for The American Kennel Clubs Canine Good Citizen Program. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. Read more about the CGC program online at:
www.akc.org/events/conformation/beginners.cfm

5. I successfully completed the NACA Wisconsin Humane Officer Training Course in 2004 and am certified to be a Wisconsin Humane Officer.  My facility is licensed by my township, the DNR, and is also inspected and licensed by the USDA (a federal license). I am not required to be a USDA facility but I wanted to be sure that I hold every license available to me. Other facilities may avoid proper city, town and federal licenses and most claim to be exempt from such, I feel any facility holding animals for any purpose should be USDA (federal) licensed.

6. I am available and I offer my aid with any adoption, placements, health, foster care, education, and/or support to you. If you need to a re-home your pet I am willing to assist you, regardless of where your dog came from!

7. I do not support private breed clubs. A private breed club member is "not" better then a non-member. If you are not on the PTA at your childs school does that make you a bad mom? Private breed club members are not inspectors, they are not certified, and they do not care for their animals any better or worse then a non-member! Anyone who has more then 3 dogs in their home or on their property should be licensed by someone whether it is their city, their state, or the federal government. Being a member of a private breed club is not a license. I have chose to not be a member of the BCOA.

8. I feel that I am highly educated in the field of animals and animal care, most of my education is accomplished by hands on experience. I am a farm girl who grew up on a large dairy and horse farm. Bonnie Brae Dairy had provided bottled milk for many in this area. As a child my grandmother, Vivian, showed and raised tiny Pomeranians; my other grandmother, Gladys, showed and raised Miniature Poodles; and my parents had Doberman Pinschers. Grandpa had a passion for Shetland ponies and horses and at times had as many as 100 which he provided to camps such as Camp Agawak, where my Aunt Jean taught the camp riding lessons. My dad later started Bonnie Brae Quarter Horse farm where he eventually added in paint horses and is now RH Horse Company. Maybe you have met some of our horses in the past at The Trinity Equestrian Center where their time was "donated" to help make some youngster smile. My mother hauled her 4 children horse showing nearly every weekend, and currently hauls my children horse showing. I have assisted with many rehabilitating situations with all sorts of animals and I am willing to welcome any new experience. I will try to answer most any questions you may have or help you with any issues you may have as well, I might not have the answer to every issue but I am sure willing to try, please don't be afraid to ask!
